Time flies when you’re having fun, and before you know it, it has already been two years since the start of the Lathlain Bike Bus.
To reflect on what we have achieved, we have put together this infographic that shows how the simple act of riding a bike to school has a positive impact on the whole community and on the environment — not to mention the benefits for the physical and mental health of all participants!
Fewer cars around the school is one of the biggest achievements, not because we have anything against cars: we know that some families need to drive, perhaps because they live too far away from the school, or because the parents have to rush to work after drop-off. Well, reducing the number of cars around the school is beneficial for these families, because they can move around more quickly in the area. With more people riding, everybody wins — even those who don’t ride a bike!
Car drivers have always been very cooperative in Lathlain, with many of them waiting and smiling (how could you not, seeing a convoy of happy kids riding together to school?), with only a single exception — maybe someone who had a rough night? The important concept to remember for the kids is not to engage and to keep going, or — as the Supreme Poet said — “Let us not talk of them, but look and pass.”
